consultation The counselor will the call you to set up an appointment. Each counselor keeps his or her own appointment book. You will be asked to come in 30 minutes early for your first appointment in order to fill out the initial paperwork. If you prefer, you call download the forms ahead of time and fill them out before you arrive. Many of our clients find that this saves them time. In the first session the counselor will ask you questions about your current situation, why you are seeking help now, what you are seeking help for, and what your initial goals are. Your counselor may begin to work with you on clarifying your goals, and developing positive goals that are closely connected to your deep core values. Your counselor might also begin to work with you on developing positive motivations for reaching your goals. Counseling is a collaborative process. In each session, your counselor will review your goals with you and evaluate with you your progress towards your goals. During the sessions, the counselor will work with you to help you develop the resources you need to achieve your goals. Clear, positive goals, external support, and internal commitment and motivation are part of the formula for a successful outcome in counseling. The counselor's job is to help you achieve your goals.
